Frequently asked questions

What is permanent jewellery?

It's a dainty gold or silver chain that's welded shut directly on you, no clasp needed. Think bracelet, anklet, necklace or ring, custom fitted to your body and made to stay on. It's called "permanent" because there's no clasp to open, though it can be removed if you ever need to.

How does it work?

You pick your chain and any charms you're feeling, we help you choose the placement, then we size it around you with a temporary fit before welding the ends together. The welder gives off a tiny spark right on the chain itself, it never touches your skin.

How long does an appointment take?

Around 20 minutes start to finish. The actual welding takes less than a minute, most of the time is just picking your chain and getting the fit right.

Does it hurt?

Not at all. The welder never touches your skin, just the chain, so all you'll feel is a tiny bit of warmth for a split second if anything.

Is it safe?

Yes. Our jewellers are trained on the welding equipment and there's zero contact between the spark and your skin.

What if I have sensitive skin or metal allergies?

We offer sterling silver and gold filled chains, both are a safer bet for sensitive skin than costume jewellery, but if you know you react to certain metals let your jeweller know before your appointment so we can pick the right chain for you.

How long does permanent jewellery last?

"Permanent" doesn't mean indestructible, it means no clasp. How long it lasts really comes down to your lifestyle, most pieces last months to years with normal wear.

Will it tarnish?

Both our sterling silver and gold filled chains are tarnish resistant, but they'll last longer and stay shinier if you keep them away from chlorine, perfume, lotion and harsh chemicals.

How do I look after it?

Clean it every so often with a bit of dish soap, water and a soft toothbrush, and try to rinse it off after swimming or anything with a lot of chemical exposure. It's durable day to day but still delicate jewellery, so treat it kindly.

How do I take it off?

Snip it with a pair of scissors or clippers at the weld point. You might need a hand from a friend if it's a bracelet. Pop back in to our store afterwards and we'll reweld it for you.

What if I need it off for an MRI, surgery or sport?

Just cut it off at the weld and bring it back in when you're ready and we'll get you rewelded.
